CVPath President and Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Aloke V. Finn recently published an editorial comment in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, entitled “Enhancing HDL Function to Prevent Atherothrombosis: Is it Time to Efflux the HDL Hypothesis?” In this piece, he mentions that despite the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antithrombotic, and other cardioprotective effects of high-density lipoprotein (HDL), it has been difficult to develop new therapies that increase HDL levels. Dr. Finn suggests that rather than increasing circulating levels of HDL, a better strategy would be to increase HDL function.
